The medium fire pit kit is all you need to use your fire pit, and be able to cook with it. Grill meat and veges on the grill net. Bridge is adjustable height. Base plate protects the ground.. ideally, you need the canvas bag also..
We went out for the day to a mate’s farm, and used the medium firepit.. we cooked for 4 adults, and had plenty of room on the grill.. it was quiet damp after all the recent rain, and farmers are always nervous about lighting fires, but we had a small fire going in no time, only needed a handful of wood, and up off the ground, it burns beautifully.. if this fire was in the grass, it would need to be twice the size to have the same effect, it would smoke and smoulder, leave a burn mark, then also you’d need to carry large heavy iron grill to cook on..
The other big advantage of these firepits, that I didn’t realise at first, is how much better they are for the environment. It literally leaves no mark, or unsightly black charcoal… more and more of our camping areas are becoming off limits to having an open fire, and this is one of the reasons.. one of the national parks in the simpson desert is about to ban fires.. that’s because more and more people are visiting the area, most are making a huge fire at night, denuding the place of firewood, and leaving black burnt ground everywhere.. these snowpeak firepits would use a fraction of the wood, really have the same heating/cooking effect, and leave no trace.. you can easily also carry enough wood, as you don’t need much.. after this fire above, because the fire burns so cleanly, we had no more than ¼ cup of white ash.. we tipped this on the dirt track, stamped on it, and there was no trace of a fire ever being lit… so yeah this is a really important consideration if you love having a fire, using one of these snowpeak firepits .
